SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir Police have seized nine vehicles and registered three FIRs during separate operations against illegal mining and unauthorised transportation of minerals in Shopian and Baramulla districts, officials said on Wednesday.
The seized vehicles include three tippers, one excavator (JCB) and five tractors allegedly involved in the illegal extraction and transportation of mineral resources.
In Shopian district, Police Station Zainapora seized a tipper, a JCB and a tractor allegedly being used for unauthorised extraction and transportation of minerals in the Zainapora area. Subsequently, FIR No. 83/2026 was registered and an investigation was initiated.
In another operation, Police Post Keegam seized three tractors engaged in alleged illegal mining activities in the Audoora-Rampathri area. Police registered FIR No. 111/2026 at Police Station Shopian and commenced further investigation into the matter.
Meanwhile, in Baramulla district, police seized three tippers during separate enforcement drives for transporting minerals without valid authorisation and for carrying illegally extracted mineral material. FIR No. 77/2026 was registered and further investigation is underway.
Police said the action forms part of an ongoing drive to curb illegal mining and protect natural resources from unauthorised exploitation.
Reiterating its commitment to safeguarding the environment and enforcing mining regulations, Jk Police warned that strict legal action will continue against those involved in illegal extraction and transportation of minerals.
Police also appealed to the public to report instances of illegal mining, assuring that the identity of informants would be kept strictly confidential.
