SRINAGAR: National Institute of Science Education and Research, NISER is inviting applicants for admission to PhD programme (winter session). The last date for filling the online application form is 05 November 2023.

The available schools under this scholarship include the School of Biological Sciences (SBS), School of Chemical Sciences (SCS), School of Computer Sciences (SCOS), School of Humanities and Social Sciences (SHSS), and School of Physical Sciences (SPS), offering ad, admission in more than 30 research areas.

To be eligible for the school of biological sciences, the candidate must have a 60 percent or equivalent GPA in master’s or MTech or MPharm in any branches of Agricultural Sciences, Biology, Life Sciences, Pharmacy (any specialization), Veterinary Sciences, Computer Sciences, Bioinformatics and Biotechnology. Students with master’s degree in physics, Chemistry or Mathematics having an interest in pursuing a career in Biology are also encouraged to apply. Candidates with a 4-year / 8-semester bachelor’s degree program with a minimum of 75 per cent marks in aggregate or equivalent grade are also eligible to apply for the program.

To be eligible for the school of chemical sciences, the candidate must have a 60 percent or equivalent GPA in master’s in chemistry or allied Chemistry fields. Students with a master’s degree in any branch of Basic Sciences with an undergraduate degree in Chemistry (or Chemistry as one of the subjects) or MTech in applied Chemistry or Computer Sciences with an interest in pursuing a career in Chemistry are also encouraged to apply. Candidates with a 4-year / 8-semester bachelor’s degree program with chemistry as a major subject with a minimum of 75 per cent marks in aggregate or equivalent grade are also eligible to apply for the programme.

To be eligible for the School of Computer Sciences, the candidate must have a 60 per cent or equivalent GPA in master’s in mathematics or computer science, or MTech or ME in Computer Science/ Electronics/ Electrical Engineering or related fields. Candidates with a 4-year / 8-semester bachelor’s degree program with a minimum of 75 per cent marks in aggregate or equivalent grade are also eligible to apply for the programme.

To be eligible for the School of Humanities and Social Sciences, a candidate must have a 55 per cent or equivalent GPA in master’s in social sciences or in allied disciplines.

To be eligible for the School of Physical Sciences, candidates must have a 60 percent or equivalent GPA in master’s in physics or ME / MTech in Applied Physics. Candidates with a minimum of 75 percent marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade in a 4 year / 8 semester bachelor’s degree science program with physics as one of the subjects or in a 4-year BE/BTech degree program are also eligible to apply for the program.

Further, the candidates must have qualified at least one of the national level examinations valid for the academic year August 2023- July 2024.

The documents required include a passport-size photo, valid signatures, birth Certificate/10th passing certificate, Certificate and mark sheets in support of passing the qualifying examination.

In case the original pass certificate is not issued by the University, then a certificate from the University on its letterhead with the seal of the concerned authority certifying the completion of the degree should be submitted.

The selected candidates will receive INR 31,000 for the first two years, which will be later enhanced to INR 35,000 for the remaining three years.
