SRINAGAR: The Jammu and Kashmir government has appointed Nitish Kumar, IPS (AGMUT: 1999), as the new Head of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in the region. This development comes as part of a government order issued by the Home Department on August 15, 2024. Nitish Kumar, previously serving as the Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) CID, takes over from R R Swain, IPS (AGMUT: 1991), who has been relieved of the additional charge of the post.

The order, issued by Chandraker Bharti, IAS, Principal Secretary to the Government, stated the move was made in the interest of the administration. This change occurs just ahead of Swain’s impending superannuation later in September, as the officer prepares for retirement.
As already reported Nilin Prabhat, former DG of elite NSG, was appointed as Special Director General Operations in Jammu and Kashmir Police. He will succeed Swain, once the latter superannuates.
Nitish Kumar will now lead the police intelligence wing in Jammu and Kashmir, a critical role in maintaining security in Jammu and Kashmir, particularly in the context of evolving security challenges and the anticipated assembly elections.
The transfer order has been communicated to key government and police officials, including the Director General of Police, JK, and relevant departments, ensuring a seamless transition in the leadership of the CID.
