A query in this regard was raised by MLA Nazir Ahmad Khan Gurezi. The response by the Public Works (R&B) Department, acknowledged that Gurez remains isolated for several months due to heavy snowfall. However, it said that no proposal is currently under consideration for establishing a cable car service from Korakbal to Athwatoo to facilitate movement during winter.

“Yes, Sir. Gurez area remains cut off during winter for many months due to heavy snowfall on Razdan Pass. However, there is no proposal under consideration for providing connectivity to Gurez Valley through a cable car from Korakbal to Athwatoo,” the reply reads.

Gurez Valley in Bandipora district of North Kashmir remains inaccessible for nearly six months every year, as Razdan Pass, the only road link to Gurez, remains closed due to heavy snowfall, resulting in major hardships for residents. (KNO)
