SRINAGAR: The Jammu and Kashmir Government has no approved proposal at present to establish dedicated skill development centres for tribal communities, including in Bandipora constituency, the Legislative Assembly has been informed.
The Department of Tribal Affairs said tribal youth would continue to be covered under various skill development initiatives run by government departments and agencies, subject to eligibility under the respective scheme guidelines.
The information was provided in a written reply to Un-Starred D. No. 1/6/75 tabled by Bandipora MLA Nizam-Ud-Din Bhat.
On the provision of solar lights, waterproof tents and other facilities for tribal communities, the department said it had procured waterproof tents and Solar Home Lights subject to the availability of funds and approved allocations.
However, the quantity procured remains limited compared with the overall demand across Jammu and Kashmir, it said.
The available tents and Solar Home Lights are being distributed in phases among eligible and deserving beneficiaries in accordance with prescribed norms and stock availability.
The department’s reply did not indicate any approved proposal for establishing dedicated skill development centres for tribal communities in the Union Territory. It also did not provide a specific timeline for establishing such centres in Bandipora.
The Government was asked about plans to provide Solar Lights, waterproof tents and water storage tanks and establish skill development centres for tribal communities, with specific reference to Bandipora constituency.
