SRINAGAR: The Jammu and Kashmir government on Thursday stated that there is no proposal at present to carry out fresh delimitation of Panchayats in the Union Territory.
The clarification was given in response to a question by MLA Bangladesh Khurshid Ahmad, who had sought information on whether the government plans to initiate Panchayat delimitation and the expected timeline.
The government said the exercise is not under consideration in view of Notification S.O. 53 of 2025, issued on February 27, 2025, by the Planning, Development and Monitoring Department. The notification has frozen the boundaries of various administrative units, including districts, tehsils, municipalities, towns, and revenue villages, effective from July 1, 2025, until the completion of Census 2021.
Consequently, no delimitation, including that of Panchayats, will be undertaken during this period, the government added.
