SRINAGAR: The Jammu and Kashmir Government has informed the Legislative Assembly that no Government Degree College has been sanctioned for Hardtooru in the Anantnag constituency, ruling out any ongoing process for identifying land for such an institution.
The clarification was issued by the Higher Education Department in response to Unstarred D. No. 1/6/216, tabled by Anantnag MLA Peerzada Mohammad Syed, who had sought the present status of the land identification process for a proposed Degree College at Hardtooru.
According to the department’s reply, there is no Government Degree College named Hardtooru that has been sanctioned by the Government as of September 22, 2026. Consequently, the question of identifying land for the college does not arise.
The Government, however, said Government Degree College Chattisinghpora is situated approximately 2.5 kilometres from Hardtooru and was sanctioned in 2019.
Despite the sanction, the academic session at GDC Chattisinghpora has not commenced so far because of the non-availability of student enrolment, the department said.
The Higher Education Department further stated that Higher Secondary School Hardtooru is currently the only feeding higher secondary school for GDC Chattisinghpora. No additional feeding higher secondary school is available for Hardtooru, according to the official reply.
The response was issued by the Additional Secretary to the Government, Higher Education Department, and endorsed by the Minister Incharge of the department.
