Chairman, Legislative Council, Amrit Malhotra Thursday directed the Chief Secretary to submit a report on the facts related to unauthorised conversion of Agriculture land into non agricultural purposes at Sangam-Khanbal in Islamabad district of South Kashmir.

Earlier, the Minister of State for Revenue, Ajaz Ahmed Khan had assured the members that the matter could be referred to the crime branch so that a detailed report is obtained about the same. He said, “No permission has been granted by the revenue department for conversion from agriculture to non agriculture purposes.” On alleged encroachments having taken place, he has asked the Chief Secretary and Director General of Police to take steps to stop such encroachments, if any taking place in the area, reads an official press handout.

Earlier interrupting the question hour, the issue about alleged conversion of agriculture land at Sangam-Khanbal was raised by Dr Bashir Ahmed Veeri, Abdul Majid Bhat and Ghulam Qadir Pardesi. The members have demanded for setting up of a House Committee to probe the same.
