Peoples Democratic Party President Mehbooba Mufti Tuesday said that the government has booked the Village Defence Committee member in Jammu region for murder for allegedly killing a youth over ration dispute.

“The VDC member has been arrested, along with his family. Two people are absconding ad I hope they will be arrested soon. An FIR for murder has been filed in the matter. Any person who does any such act will not be spared or pardoned by our government,” Mehbooba said while talking to reporters here.

Ishtiyaq Ahmed (26), youth activist of National Conference (NC) in Rajouri district, was shot dead by VDC member Kewal Sharma in Potha village of Kalakote Tehsil this week after the two fought over distribution of ration. Sharma is also a CAPD ration distributor.

Over the anger among people against Food Security Act for scaling down of ration for each family member, the PDP president said that the government will take a genuine review of the Act.

“Food Security Act is good; it will benefit poor as they will get ration on cheap rates. But if any family gets less ration, we will fill that gap and take care of that,” she said.
