Wearing shrouds and white aprons, the veterinary doctors on Tuesday marched from Srinagar’s Pratap Park to Press Enclave to protest against the government for ‘failing to fulfil their demands.’
The unemployed veterinary doctors, including females, assembled at Srinagar’s Pratap Park and chanted slogans: ‘we want justice’.
The protesters were wearing shrouds on which: ‘I am a doctor where is my job’ slogans were written. The protesters later marched from Pratap Park to Srinagar’s Press Enclave amid anti-government sloganeering.
Pertinently, the unemployed veterinary doctors have boycotted the Public Service Commission (PSC) exams which was held on Monday (February 6) following which they staged protest here at Press Enclave against what they called ‘fraudulent exam’.
“Some blue eyed candidates were already in the centre before the time of the exam at 11:10 am,” they claimed.
They also protested against the recruitment of 24 posts announced in Animal and Sheep Husbandry Department in June 2016.
“The examination has been held fraudulently,” President of Unemployed Veterinary Doctors Association (UVDA), Dr Ishfaq Ahmad said.
“We are 750 unemployed candidates. We oppose the examination which indeed is happening for the first time in Jammu and Kashmir. We are forced to agitate and boycott PSC exams,” Ahmad said.
“There has been creation of only 14 posts from 1984-89 and since then no new post have been created. In spite of increasing demand of veterinary hospitals in the state, hardly government has or is talking any step to meet it,” he added.
The candidates appealed Chief Minister, Mehbooba Mufti, to look into the matter and redress their genuine demands at the earliest.
The aspirants said that in case the government failed to fulfil their demands, “they will launch agitation against the government for which the government will be held responsible”. The protesting aspirants later burnt down the shrouds they had worn.
