SRINAGAR: Police in north Kashmir’s Bandipora district have arrested two persons in connection with the alleged rape of a 12-year-old girl, officials said, claiming the case was solved within 12 hours.
Officials said police received information about the alleged sexual assault at around noon on Sunday, following which an investigation was immediately launched.
During the investigation, police identified and arrested two persons who were not previously known to the victim, officials said.
A senior police officer said both accused were apprehended during overnight raids conducted at multiple locations as part of the investigation.
“A case and FIR under relevant sections has been registered, while both persons have been arrested during overnight raids,” the officer said.
The case came to light after the girl’s family approached the police, following which the FIR was registered and legal proceedings initiated.
The victim has been referred for medical examination, while her statement is expected to be recorded before a Magistrate in accordance with the provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
Further investigation into the case is under way, the officer said.
