Not NC or PDP, Parliament Will Restore Statehood: BJP’s Sharma

SRINAGAR: Leader of Opposition in the Assembly, Sunil Sharma, on Saturday said that the restoration of Jammu and Kashmir’s statehood is the prerogative of the Parliament and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), not regional parties like the National Conference (NC) or the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).

Speaking with reporters in Karnah, Sharma said that the NC and PDP have no role in the restoration of statehood and that people should not be misled.

He said people should ask these parties for basic needs like free electricity, extra ration, and subsidised LPG. “Statehood will come. We will bring it. Not at the request of NC or PDP, but when the time is right, through Parliament and through PM Modi,” he said.

Calling NC unfamiliar outside Jammu and Kashmir, Sharma said the party has only three members in Parliament. “In a crowd of 543, they’re not even visible. We are ruling in more than 20 states. They cannot be compared to us,” he said.

Sharma was visiting the Karnah sector near the Line of Control in Kupwara to assess the damage caused by Pakistan shelling after Operation Sindoor. (KNO)
