SRINAGAR: Ghulam Nabi Farooqi breathed his last in the early hours of March 9, leaving a deep void in the hearts of his family, friends, and the wider community. A man of quiet dignity and unwavering values, he was widely respected for his kindness and wisdom. He was well over 70 years of age.

His passing has been a personal loss for his son-in-law, Dr Rafi Ahmed Jan, a noted pulmonologist and former Head of the Department of Internal and Pulmonary Medicine at SKIMS Srinagar. Dr Jan, who is currently serving as Professor of Internal Medicine at GMC Anantnag, has received an outpouring of condolences from colleagues and well-wishers.
The Namaz-e-Janaza was performed at 11 AM at Rawalpora High School, where a large gathering from various walks of life, including members of the medical and media fraternity, paid their last respects.
The bereaved family includes daughters, sons-in-law Rafia Jan and nationally renowned filmmaker Abdul Rafia Fazili, and cherished grandchildren. The loss has been deeply felt by his extended family and well-wishers.
The congregational Fateha Khawani will be held on the fourth day, Wednesday, March 12, at 11 AM at the Pandan Malarata graveyard near Patwan Masjid. A Taziyati Majlis will follow at Dr Jan’s residence in Rawalpora, Srinagar.
The medical and civil society fraternity have expressed profound sorrow over the demise, extending their heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family. The community joins in prayer, asking Allah to grant Jenab Ghulam Nabi Farooqi Sahib Jannat-ul-Firdous and to bestow strength upon his loved ones during this difficult time.
