Jammu and Kashmir Police on Friday claimed to have arrested a “notorious” drug peddler in Nasarullahpora area of Budgama district in central Kashmir and recovered contraband substance charas from his possession.

A police spokesman said that officers at a checkpoint established at Nasarullahpora arrested one notorious drug peddler identified Ab Hameed Mir alias Hameed Bhagwan son of Abdul Gani Mir resident of Nasrullapora.

“Contraband substance charas weighing 95gms has also been recovered by the officers. He has been shifted to Police Station Budgam where he remains in custody,” said police spokesman.

“In this regard, a case FIR No. 244/2019 under relevant sections of law has been registered in Police Station Budgam and investigation has been taken up,” he said.

“Community members are requested to come forward with any information regarding drug peddlers in their neighbourhood. Persons found indulging in drug peddling will be dealt as per law,” he added.

“Our consistent actions against drug peddlers should reassure the community members that we are making efforts to keep our society free from the scourge of drug menace,” said the spokesman.
