Jammu and Kashmir Police on Tuesday claimed to have arrested a notorious drug peddler and seized contraband substances and cash of Rs 38,750 from his possession in Sopore town of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district.
A police spokesperson in a statement said, “One person identified as Shafat Ahmad Gojree son of Mohammad Ismail resident of Watergam was arrested near Watergam area for drug supply offences.”
“He has been taken to Police Station Dangiwacha where he remains in custody,” said the spokesman.
“Officers at the spot have seized huge quantity of contraband substances which include Brown Sugar, Charas & cash of Rs 38,750,” he said.
“As per police records, he was a notorious drug peddler selling drugs among youth in the area. Accordingly, a case FIR No. 93/2019 under relevant sections of law stands registered at Police Station Dangiwacha. Further investigation in the matter is going on,” he added.
“Community members are requested to come forward with any information regarding drug peddlers in their neighbourhood. Persons found indulging in drug peddling will be dealt as per law,” said the spokesman.
