Army based at Haiderbeig, under the aegis of Chinar Corps, launched Project Kushi – a skill development initiative – for the people of Pattan and Palhalan area including children and women folk.

The events conducted on Tuesday included inauguration of Vocational Training Centre at Widdipura and a seminar on Food Processing and Canning facilities at Hyderbeig Camp.  Seminar on Food Processing was conducted in collaboration of Horticulture Department J & K Government, wherein vast scope in field of food processing was introduced to people and a demonstration organised.

According to an Army spokesman, this initiative will also include a seven day capsule for volunteers at Horticulture Department and culminate in establishing of cottage industries by trained youth in their respective area. The inauguration received an overwhelming response of approx 600 personals including large participation of women.  A large No of young boys and girls volunteered for the vocational training. Two entrepreneurs who are local residents also told about their success story which motivated the youth present at the seminar. In addition, four meritorious girl students were felicitated and 25 sewing machines were distributed to the needy ladies of the area.

Vocational Training Centre which was inaugurated at Widdipura under Project Kushi will be imparting training to young boys and girls in field of computer education, computer science, coaching for students of Xth and XIIth class in science subjects and Tailoring.

The local populace welcomed yet another initiative of Chinar Corps in providing employment opportunities for the youth and providing skills for self employment. (CNS)
