In order to give “fresh impetus” to live stock sector in Jammu and Kashmir, a “Vision Document-2025” was discussed at a high level meeting of Animal and Sheep Husbandry department officers in Jammu on Monday.

Minister for Animal/Sheep Husbandry, Fisheries and Science & Technology, Sajad Ahmad Lone who has devised the vision document himself chaired the meeting.

Union Secretary Animal Husbandry, Dairying and Fisheries, Ashok Angurana, Secretary, Animal and Sheep Husbandry Satish Nehru, Directors and Heads of different wings of Animal and Sheep Husbandry and Fisheries departments besides other senior officers and core group members of the vision document were present in the meeting.

The Minister while briefing about the vision document said that a road map has been designed to revamp the live-stock sector with a target to achieve self-sufficiency in poultry, meat and milk in the state by 2025.

Sajjad said the vision has a financial envelopment of Rs 2031.23 Crore.

Giving details, the Minister said that Rs 814.79 Crore have been proposed for dairy development, Rs 423.44 Crore for poultry development, while as for Sheep sector the proposal is of Rs 380 Crore and for feed and fodder development Rs 413 Crore have been proposed in the document.

“The vision document was firstly presented to Union Secretary and his team at Krishi Bhawan Delhi on first of this month and was agreed to in principle,” said the Minister adding that today’s threadbare discussion is a step forward making the vision transferred into the realty.

“With the vision of this government and flow of funds from Union Government, the State will achieve self-sufficiency in production of milk, meat and poultry”, said the Minister adding that the vision document has the potential to mitigate huge annual capital flight of Rs 3500 Crore on purchase of poultry and meat in the state and help in making the state a surplus in the production.

Speaking on the occasion, the Union Secretary appreciated the efforts of the Minister and his team for bringing out such visionary document.

He assured full support from the Union Ministry in making the vision a success. He gave various suggestions to further translate the document so as to make it operationalize on ground. He also stressed to hold workshops at district level to aware people about the vision document. He also advised for making model success stories of the vision in all sectors to test the theory of the vision.

Joint Directors, technical staff and other concerned officers were present in the meeting.
