SRINAGAR
Hundreds of protesters Saturday blocked Srinagar-Baramulla highway against what they called “atrocities” by the hands police. The protesters alleged police of beating locals for visiting the victim families.
Hundreds of people came on the highway and blocked the traffic on both the sides alleging that police last evening beat four local youth “without any provocation.”
“Police not only beat the people but attacked the houses of victim families by tear smoke shells and stones,” the protesters said raising anti police slogans. They added that police also arrested five local youth today morning including Arif, Aman, Attaullah alias Amir and Touseef.
The protesters including the members of victim family members sat on the highway and demanded the release of the arrested youth. They also raised anti-army and anti-India slogans and demanded immediate arrest of the army personnel involved in the killing of 14 years old Faisal Yousuf Bhat and 18 years old Mairajudin at Chittergam early this week.
Meanwhile, hundreds of vehicles are stuck on both sides of the highway.
