SRINAGAR: B.Sc. Nursing and allied health science students in Jammu and Kashmir have set November 10 as the deadline for the government to issue the pending internship stipend order, warning of a day-and-night protest from November 11 if their demand is not met.
In a representation submitted to the Commissioner Secretary of the Health and Medical Education Department on October 23, the students sought urgent intervention to expedite the process. The submission was registered under Diary No. 7057433/2026.
The students, representing Government Medical Colleges and the Sher-i-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS), said they had been pursuing the matter for nearly a year and had submitted the required documents and details. They said colleges had also been asked to provide student particulars and fee information, which they understood had been received before the file was forwarded to the department.
Despite these steps, the stipend order remains pending, according to the students, who said the delay had caused financial difficulties and uncertainty for interns relying on the stipend during their training.
“The file is already at its final stage. Further administrative delay should not fall on the students,” said Tawseef Ayoub, who signed the representation on behalf of B.Sc. Nursing students in Jammu and Kashmir.
The students urged the Commissioner Secretary to intervene and ensure that the remaining formalities were completed without further delay.
They warned that nursing and allied health science students from colleges across Jammu and Kashmir, including SKIMS, would launch a peaceful, united day-and-night protest from November 11 if the order was not issued by the deadline. The agitation, they said, would continue until the order was released.
The students expressed hope that timely intervention by the department would resolve the matter and avert the protest.
