SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Monday said the National Conference (NC) was prevented from reaching Jantar Mantar to hold a peaceful protest demanding the restoration of statehood to Jammu and Kashmir, but asserted that the party’s campaign would continue.

In a statement posted on X, Abdullah said, “We were stopped from getting to Jantar Mantar and stopped from protesting peacefully for what is rightfully ours, but we were not silenced. This is only the beginning of our struggle for statehood, our rights, our dignity and everything that was taken away from us.”
The National Conference had organised a political demonstration in New Delhi on Monday to coincide with the opening day of Parliament’s Monsoon Session, pressing the Union Government to restore full statehood to Jammu and Kashmir.
The party has maintained that the restoration of statehood remains one of its principal political demands and said its campaign would continue despite restrictions on the planned protest.
