KL Report

The ruling National Conference (NC) will request the Election Commission of India (ECI) to review security in Jammu and Kashmir’s Shopian District, where the party’s sarpanch, Mohammad Sultan Bhat, was killed by suspected militants on Sunday.

“My party will formally request the ECI to review security in this area. We are concerned about gaps in the security grid,” tweeted Omar.

“…the EC code forbids me from any engagement with the security forces so the EC is now responsible for plugging any loopholes,” Omar’s tweet reads further.

Bhat was kiled in the Nazneen Pora area of the district, which lies in the southern part of the state.

Police gave conflicting reports, with some officers saying he was killed after being called out of his home, while others said that he was in his car when he was shot dead outside his home.
