Omar donated Cycle to Akbar Khan

National Conference Working President and MLA Beerwah Omar Abdullah on Monday felicitated first State, National and International level cycling athlete Akbar Khan by donating a professional “Merida Reacto” 5000 bicycle worth Rs 2.8 lakh to the athlete.

While felicitating Akbar Khan, Omar Abdullah hoped that he would continue to bring laurels to the State and inspire more youngsters to take up athletic sports professionally, an NC statement said this evening.

He said that Akbar has worked hard for reaching to this level. “Despite hardships he managed his way into International arena and he deserves all possible support and encouragement”.

Akbar Khan is the first ever cyclist from J&K to get selected for the International event. Apart from that he is second ever national medallist for the State in cycling sports. Khan hails from Narbal, an area of Omar Abdullah’s Beerwah constituency

Omar Abdullah also donated two tricycles to differently abled persons of his constituency on this occasion.

Earlier in the day, Omar raised issue of cricket ground Sozaith in the Lower House of state legislature. He asked government whether it had any plans to develop the ground.

Although government said that it needs funds for the same, Omar asked it take up the issue as soon as possible.
