The “comprehensive” cabinet reshuffle slated later this afternoon has triggered immense activity in the National Conference and the Congress with some of the key ministers being replaced by new faces. The emphasis remains on the 2014 polls for which Omar Abdullah wants the ‘best of the lot’ to go to the rejuvenation of the party.

The lawmakers who are likely to be inducted into the council of ministers are Ajay Kumar Sadhotra, Sajjad Ahmad Kitchloo, Mir Saifullah, Choudhary Mohammad Ramzan, and Mohammad Akbar Lone. Mubarak Gul is expected to be the new Speaker of the state legislative assembly.

Dr Farooq Abdullah and chief minister Omar Abdullah have decided to send latter’s buddy and right hand Nasir Aslam Wani to rejuvenate the party. By all means he might be the new additional secretary general. Those who will be sent to work exclusively for the party are expected to include Javed Ahmad Dar, Surjit Singh Slathia, and Abdul Gani Malik. Sources said there is a strong possibility of even Devinder Singh Rana being sent to the party and might head the Jammu province. Fate of heavyweights Abdul Rahim Ratherm, the finance minister of the state, and Ali Mohammad Sagar, the state rural development minister, is not immediately known. There is however a strong chance of Sagar being sent to the party, sources said.

Nobody in the party is in a position to confirm or deny who is in or who is out? “It will be possible within a few hours,” a top source in the government said. “Once the names go to the Raj Bhawan, you can take it official.”

The reshuffle less than two years ahead of the new elections would be affected after all the NC lawmakers serving as cabinet or Ministers of state submitted their resignations to the Omar Abdullah. Chief Minister hosted a dinner for all his lawmakers and made clear that the reshuffle is going to be comprehensive so that veterans work round the clock to retain power in 2014.
