Peoples Democratic Party Tuesday accused former Chief Minister Omar Abdullah of insulting people of Jammu and Kashmir by thinking that a financial package was “in offing to buy them”.“This is the most insulting thing a former Chief Minister can say about his people,” one of the PDP general secretaries, Rafi Mir, said this evening.
“By thinking that a financial package can purchase the people of Jammu and Kashmir, Omar has exposed National Conference’s ideology,” Mir said. “Omar’s contemptuous remarks point to lack of integrity among the people of Jammu and Kashmir.”
Mir added that a “mega developmental package” was sought by Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed to “mitigate the sufferings of flood ridden J&K” as the people of Jammu and Kashmir have been the worst sufferers of this catastrophe and have showed exemplary courage to move on with dignity and courage.
Mir said, “our people are not saleable, they are people of integrity and such statements demean their struggle for peace and a conducive atmosphere.”
Lambasting the National Conference for “false claims of introspection and change”, Mir further said, “nothing will mop out the wounds and sufferings that National Conference has inflicted upon the people with its inefficiency, mis-governance and anti-people approach.” “The National Conference did everything from suppression to transforming Jammu and Kashmir into police state only to stick to power.”
“The basic problem with the National Conference and its leadership was that there was never a culture of respecting the people and their aspirations.”
