National Conference on Friday expressed disappointment and shock over the omission of “Navroz” as an official holiday in a list of holidays released by the General Administration Department (GAD) of the J&K Government and said this omission was not only a sign of the Government’s insensitivity towards a particular community but also yet again highlighted the state of chaos and maladministration in the State under the PDP-BJP dispensation.

“In an order (Order No. 1558-GAD of 2014 Dated 21.12.2015, the State Government has omitted Navroz in the list of Holidays to be observed during the calendar year 2016 under the Negotiable Instruments Act,” an NC statement claimed this evening.

NC politicians Aga Syed Ruhullah Mehdi and Aga Mehmood lashed out at the PDP-BJP Government for this “unprecedented, shocking omission of Navroz” as a listed official holiday and said, “the Chief Minister should clarify his position on this bizarre development that has hurt the sentiments of the Shia community in the State.”

“This has never happened till now and this clearly proves the lack of sensitivity that this Government has towards the people. Since the GAD comes directly under the Chief Minister, he is personally responsible and culpable for this act of omitting Navroz from the list of holidays. We demand the Chief Minister clarifies the Government’s position without any delay,” the statement quoting Aga Syed Ruhullah Mehdi and Aga Mehmood stated.

The Senior NC politicians said, “the state of chaos, anarchy and confusion in the Government had impaired the Government’s ability to perform its basic duties with professionalism and diligence and such preposterous incidents only reiterated the complete failure of the PDP-BJP Government.”
