SRINAGAR: A south Kashmir girl student has got admission in one of the top universities in the world. Her studies in mechanical engineering would be funded by a scholarship.
Adeeba Tak, 17, a native of Shopian has got admission in the University of Pennsylvania (UPenn), the USA in mechanical engineering. Though she had got admission to the University of California, Santa Barbara, Adeeba preferred the UPenn.
Making parents proud Adeeba has created history, at least for Shopian, as UPenn will fund her studies completely. She will be pursuing her bachelor’s in mechanical engineering for the next four years.
UPenn is one of the prestigious universities of the West. It boasts of producing 30 Nobel laureates, 25 billionaires – the most by any University at the undergraduate level, and a significant number of Fortune 500 CEOs.
Born in a modest family Adeeba was a very bright student since childhood. The environment in the family helped her achieve academic goals. Her father Noushad Qeysar Tak is an official in State Forest Corporation (SFC) and her mother Laila Gulshan is a housewife. Her elder sister is pursuing MBBS in Decca.
In 2017, Adeeba visited Delhi to attend a workshop on her subject of interest. “It was a great experience to attend such workshop that helped me in my preparations,” Adeeba said on phone from her Shopian home. “My parents and teachers supported always, it is all because of them that I will have the opportunity in studying in one of the world’s best academic campuses.”
“I used to prepare for exams for 9 hours a day,” she said.
After passing her matriculation from Shah-e-Hamadan High School Shopian, she got admission in Greenland Higher Secondary School Shopian with Science subjects.
After passing her twelfth with flying colours, Adeeba obtained 477 marks. She eventually got selected for the course in the American University, “I came to know about UPenn in my twelfth class when teachers informed the class about the possibilities of studying abroad,” she added.
Earlier after her matriculation, Adeeba was hand-picked by RiSE, a group of coaching institutes in 2015, when she topped the first edition of their talent search examination. Over the past two years, Adeeba has consistently worked hard to achieve her childhood dream of becoming an aeronautical engineer.
“We are confident that Adeeba with her never let go attitude and humility will make the most of her time at UPenn and will scale unprecedented heights,” the RiSE wrote in a congratulatory message on their Facebook page “She is an inspiration for all of us, especially for new generations. Best wishes.”
As the force of river cuts the mountains and makes a path for itself, similarly this brave girl Ms.Adeeba Tak has paved a path towards a bright future. This path will also be useful for thousands of other children who can tread on it and achieve their dreams……….Ms.Adeeba has proved it, if you have the will you can make your own way……….all the best
