A truck conductor was killed and the driver injured after their truck 709 came under a heavy avalanche in Shaitani Nallah near Zojila Pass in the jurisdiction of police station Drass on Monday, officials said.
An official said the avalanche hit the truck bearing registration JK16 9189 carrying Vegetable at Shaitani Nallah near Zojila Pass at around 6:00 pm.
Soon after the incident, the BRO and police launched a rescue operation and both driver and conductor of the truck trapped under snow were evacuated, he said.
However, conductor died on the spot while the injured driver brought to the hospital for treatment, he added.
The deceased conductor was identified as Tawseef Ahmad Mir son of Ghulam Mohammad Mir a resident of Ari Goripura Kangan while the injured driver has not yet been identified.
