SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir was sanctioned 14.97 lakh smart meters but only around 2 lakh have been installed so far, reveals a written reply tabled in the Lok Sabha on Thursday.
Under the Government of India’s flagship Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS), which aims to strengthen and modernize the power distribution network across the country. The information was provided by Minister of State for Power, Shripad Naik, in response to a question raised by MP Pushpendra Saroj.
“In terms of funding, JK was sanctioned Rs 272 crore for smart metering work under RDSS. However, the government data shows no funds have been released or utilised yet under this component, even as other states have begun receiving allocations since FY24,” the reply reads.
The RDSS, launched in 2021, aims to modernise power infrastructure, reduce ATC losses, and promote prepaid smart metering across the country.
