SRINAGAR: Opposition parties of Jammu and Kashmir are all set to hold a meeting in Jammu on Tuesday to discuss several issues including deferment of local body and panchayat polls in the UT and seat-sharing issue for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections for INDIA bloc.

Quoting a senior leader, KNS reported that the prevailing situation in Jammu and Kashmir and across the country in view of the divisive policies being implemented by the present dispensation, shall be discussed in the meeting.

“The meeting is being chaired by National Conference president Dr Farooq Abdullah at hotel Radison in Jammu at 2 pm tomorrow,” he said.

He said that a discussion will also take place regarding the launching of a mass movement against deferment of local body and panchayat polls in Jammu and Kashmir.

“The meeting will discuss the issue of deferment of local body  and panchayat polls as is being reported by several news outlets in Jammu and Kashmir. We will also discuss seat-sharing for the upcoming Lok Sabha polls for INDIA bloc and several other issues will also be discussed that include prevailing situation in J&K and across the country,” he said.

On being asked why three parties including Apni Party, People’s Conference and Ghulam Nabi Azad’s party were not invited to the meeting he said, “Had we invited them for this meeting they would have turned it down again as they are under the influence of BJP and are playing hand-in glove with the present dispensation.”

The leader also said that their doors are always open for any party and if any party wants to join them they are always welcome.

The meeting will be attended by Peoples Democratic Party president Mehbooba Mufti, CPI(M) senior leader M Y Tarigami, other senior leaders from Kashmir and several other parties from Jammu region.
