Hurriyat Conference (g) chairperson Syed Ali Geelani on Monday expressed concern over the horrendous situation prevailing in Jammu and Kashmir and said that the authorities have virtually turned J&K into a battle field.

Paying tributes to the slain militants killed in Pulwama encounter, Geelani said that people of J&K are facing extreme situations. “During and after encounters, the civilian populations are subjected to arbitrary measures and disproportionate military might.”

Lashing the Indian state for its “barbaric and inhuman approach”, Geelani said that “tyranny and oppression” have touched heights in Kashmir and all rights and liberties of people have disappeared.

Referring to peaceful settlement of Kashmir issue, Geelani said that “our stand is clear and unambiguous that right to self-determination is a standard and democratic formula for the peaceful settlement of this issue”.
