During the meeting, it was revealed that 13,615 rooftop solar systems have already been installed under the scheme, with 5,413 consumers receiving zero electricity bills — a key milestone in JK’s clean energy transition. The Union Territory has set a target of covering 83,500 households, of which over 76,000 applications have been received and 17,151 consumer agreements signed.

The Chief Secretary emphasised the significance of the scheme in addressing JK’s energy deficit and promoting sustainable power generation. He directed Divisional and District Administrations to ensure time-bound implementation and urged both power distribution companies — JPDCL and KPDCL — to intensify awareness campaigns highlighting the economic and environmental benefits of solar energy.

Dulloo also called for improved coordination among banks, vendors, and district administrations to fast-track loan disbursement and consumer facilitation. He instructed strict monitoring of vendor performance and regular evaluation of district-level progress.

Additional Chief Secretary (Power Development Department), Shailendra Kumar, urged banks to publicise low-interest loan schemes and subsidies available under the initiative, while advocating transparency in vendor selection and prompt agreement execution.

During the briefing, it was informed that Central Financial Assistance (CFA) of Rs 96.68 crore has been disbursed to 11,297 beneficiaries. The Chief Secretary also reviewed solarisation of government buildings, noting that 6,716 structures across JK have already been powered by solar energy, achieving a total capacity of 64.67 MW.

Secretary, Science and Technology, Dr. Shahid Iqbal Choudhary, informed that work orders for 47.45 MW of the 70 MW Rooftop Solar Project have been issued, with installation nearing completion at several sites.

Reaffirming the administration’s commitment, Dulloo said the government remains focused on ensuring self-reliant and clean power generation through effective execution of the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana and related solar initiatives across all 20 districts.
