Over 3 Lakh Pucca Houses Built in JK Under PMAY

   

SRINAGAR: Over three lakh houses have been built in Jammu and Kashmir under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) in the past two years, Minister for Rural Development and Panchayati Raj Javid Ahmad Dar informed the Assembly on Monday.

A fresh survey is underway to include remaining eligible households. As of March 18, 2025, 3,04,544 houses—2,60,124 in Jammu and 44,420 in Kashmir—have been completed under PMAY-G, exceeding the sanctioned 2,86,057 houses in Jammu and 48,806 in Kashmir.

Rajouri district recorded the highest number of completed houses (55,829), followed by Poonch (46,752) and Ramban (31,714). In Kashmir, Anantnag led with 9,999 houses, followed by Kupwara (9,775) and Baramulla (5,534).

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah informed that 1,288 houses were destroyed in fire incidents across J&K in the past two years—574 in 2023-24 and 714 in 2024-25. Kishtwar saw the most fire-damaged houses (107) in 2024-25, while Srinagar recorded the highest (91) in 2023-24.

Under SDRF norms, Rs 1.30 lakh is provided as compensation for fully gutted houses.
