SRINAGAR: Many scientists from Jammu and Kashmir figured among the World’s top 2 per cent Scientists list compiled by Stanford University of USA.
At least 25 scientists from Kashmir and 20 scientists from Jammu made it to the top ranking. It lists scientists on the basis of some key indices, including publications and citations. Stanford University draws up the list on the basis of subject wise analysis.
It figures 9 scientists from University of Kashmir including Prof Shakil A Romshoo who is a renowned earth scientist and VC IUST, Prof Ghulam Jeelani from the Department of Earth Sciences, Prof F A Masoodi, Dr Adil Gani and Dr Idrees Ahmed Wani from the Department of Food Science and Technology, Dr Imtiaz Ahmed, Dr Shabir Ahmad Parrah, Dr Ikhlaq Hussain and Dr Rouf Ahmad Rather (Research Assistant) from the Department of Zoology, Department of Electronics and Instrumentation, Institute of Technology Zakura Campus and South Campus of the University, respectively.
2 scientists from the Sher-e-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences have been included in the list. Dr Parvaiz Ahmad Kaul has figured in the General and Internal Medicine category with a subspecialty of Respiratory Medicine and Dr MS Khuroo figures in the subspecialty of Gastroenterology and Hepatology.
Another scientist hailing from Srinagar, Dr. Faheem Hyder Pottoo, Assistant Professor at the Department of Pharmacology, Imam Abdulrahman Bin Faisal University (formerly University of Dammam), Saudi Arabia has been listed in the ranking.
Among several scientists of Jammu University, Prof Kavita Suri has been figured in the list. She serves as Director Department of Lifelong Learning.
