In a written reply to a Lok Sabha question, Minister of State for Rural Development Kamlesh Paswan said that, as of March 20, 2026, a total of 46,178 works had been completed across the Union Territory during 2025-26, involving an expenditure of Rs 7,361.56 lakh. Another 4,80,135 works are ongoing with an expenditure of Rs 1,25,056.86 lakh.

The minister said that during the previous financial year (2024-25), 1,81,828 works were completed at an expenditure of Rs 33,058.18 lakh, while 3,89,873 works remained under execution, with spending of Rs 92,209.66 lakh.

The ministry also shared district-wise figures for Rajouri, where 9,300 works have been completed during the current financial year at a cost of Rs 1,157.64 lakh. A further 84,810 works are in progress, with expenditure amounting to Rs 16,594.09 lakh. During 2024-25, the district completed 19,723 works while 66,696 projects remained ongoing.

Responding to concerns over pending liabilities under the scheme, the Centre said MGNREGS is a demand-driven programme whose implementation rests with the respective state and Union Territory governments. It clarified that funds for the material component are released to the state government through the SNA-SPARSH system, which then allocates them to districts. The Union government does not release material funds directly to districts or blocks.

The ministry further informed Parliament that the Centre released Rs 190.68 crore towards the material component of MGNREGS in Jammu and Kashmir during 2024-25 and Rs 125.30 crore during the current financial year up to March 19, 2026.
