SRINAGAR: More than 8.67 lakh farmers in Jammu and Kashmir have received financial assistance under the 23rd instalment of the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) scheme, with the Union Government releasing Rs 173.60 crore to beneficiaries in the Union Territory. The Centre has also clarified that there is no proposal to increase the annual assistance of Rs 6,000 per farmer under the scheme.
The details were shared by Minister of State for Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Ramnath Thakur in a written reply to an unstarred question in the Lok Sabha.
According to the government, 8,67,973 farmers in Jammu and Kashmir benefited from the 23rd instalment (April-July 2026), receiving a total of Rs 173.60 crore through direct benefit transfer.
The Minister said that land seeding, eKYC and Aadhaar linkage with bank accounts remain mandatory for farmers to receive benefits under the scheme. Eligible beneficiaries verified by the respective States and Union Territories receive payments in subsequent instalments.
The government further informed Parliament that over Rs 4.46 lakh crore has been disbursed to farmers across the country through 23 instalments since the launch of the PM-KISAN scheme. It reiterated that there is no proposal to enhance the annual financial assistance beyond the existing Rs 6,000.
