With the Closure of Sgr-Jmu Highway for the past several days the train from Banihal to Srinagar was Tuesday overcrowded with people travelling on its roof.

The morning train that departed at 7:30 from Banihal had no space when it reached Sadura, thus people climbed on the roof, eyewitnesses said.

According to the railway officials, the unusual overcrowdings was due to the closure of the Srinagar-Jammu highway from the past two days.

“Most of the seats were occupied by the non-locals, who had arrived at the Banihal station a day before,” an official said.

Meanwhile, people kept climbing the roof with every passing station and the train swelled with almost 400 passengers only on the roof.
