SRINAGAR: In the last 24 hours when the entire Jammu and Kashmir is paralysed by a serious lockdown, 63 fresh deaths were reported. Besides, 3677 new infections were registered across Jammu and Kashmir.
With the fresh toll of 63 deaths, the overall death by Covid19 has reached 3090 people. These include 1682 in Kashmir and 1408 in Jammu.
As many as 37 deaths took place in Jammu and 26 in Kashmir divisions, the information revealed by the government said.
Jammu town continues to top the list of the dead for yet another consecutive day. It lost 22 citizens in the last 24 hours. Srinagar, the other capital city lost 10 residents.
The district-wise details suggest that Kashmir lost four citizens in Pulwama, three each in Anantnag and Kulgam, two each in Baramulla, Budgam, and one each in Kupwara and Bandipore.
Apart from 22 deaths reported from Jammu city, the region lost six citizens from Rajouri, four in Poonch, two each in Udhampur, and Ramban and one in Kathua.
In the last 24 hours, officials said 3027 new Covid-19 positives were reported from across Jammu and Kashmir. Of them, Srinagar alone accounted for 375. Jammu, the other capital of the erstwhile state reported 527 cases. This is for the first time that Jammu has overtaken Srinagar city in daily infections.
Of the new cases detected in the last 24 hours, Kashmir accounts for 1516 cases against 1511 of the Jammu division. This is another major trend indicating that the Jammu region is gradually overtaking Kashmir in infections.
In Kashmir, the new cases include 124 from Baramulla, 308 from Budgam, 167 from Pulwama, 140 from Kupwara, 97 from Anantnag, 100 from Bandipora, 98 from Ganderbal, 72 from Kulgam, and 31 from Shopian.
From Jammu, officials said Udhampur reported 221, Rajouri 138, Doda 40, Kathua 197, Samba 154, Kishtwar 48, Poonch 61, Ramban 52, and Reasi 66.
Right now, Jammu and Kashmir has 52001 active cases, which includes 32646 in Kashmir 19355 in Jammu. It means Kashmir has almost double the active cases in comparison to Jammu.
