SRINAGAR: The central Kashmir Pakherpora town is closed in protest against the arrest of almost half a dozen young men, reports reaching from Budgam said. The arrests were made during the last night.

Informed sources said seven youth accused of stone pelting were arrested during the last night, Police carried out raids in the area and arrested them. Police said they had identified them in the last few days of stone pelting incidents that were reported from the belt.

Early morning when the news of arrests spread in the belt, the people spontaneously stopped at home and decided to observe a strike in protest, reports reaching here said.

Meanwhile, police said the operation that was launched Friday evening in the Ananwan forests around Kralgund has concluded without any consequence. The stretch also has a couple of habitations.

.Reports said the mixed columns of the army and paramilitary forces laid a siege of a vast belt of the forests after recivei9ng information about the militant presence. They scanned particular stretches of the homes and the surroundings. At one point in time, they even used illuminators to have a better view of the area.

 

However, the operation was declared over when nothing was found in the belt. The soldiers had fired a few shots as well but there was no retaliation.
