Special Assistant to Pakistan Prime Minister on Foreign Affairs Tariq Fatemi has briefed the United Nations Deputy Secretary-General Jan Eliasson about the continuing “grave human rights violations and Indian brutalities in Kashmir”, Radio Pakistan reported.

Fatemi also apprised Eliasson on the tense situation in the region during their meeting at the UN, the report added.

“Tariq Fatemi also addressed the meeting hosted by Pakistan representative to UN Maleeha Lodhi,” said the radio report.

Fatemi also underlined a need for a dialogue between Pakistan and India to resolve the long-standing issue of Kashmir between both the countries.

He mentioned that there is an indigenous, widespread and home-grown uprising in Kashmir which Indian government is trying to “suppress through horrendous human rights violations”.
