Reacting over the recent killing of a youth in Palhalan, Deputy Inspector General of Police North Kashmir Range, Gareeb Das Friday said that Jammu and Kashmir Police will set an example by awarding exemplary punishment to the guilty cop.

“We have directly registered an FIR against the security forces and will provide every detail to Inquiry Officer to bring the killer to justice,” Das told CNS adding that his symapthies are with the bereaved family.

He said that police is well aware of this fact that the slain youth Farooq Ahmed Bhat was a good cricketer who had participated in several cricket tournaments organized by Army and other groups. “The family of slain youth is very poor and if they show willingness, we will provide a job for one their members in police department,” he said.

DIG North Kashmir said that police is waiting for the inquiry report that will be submitted by Sub-Divisional Magistrate Pattan. “Inquiry is going on and we are fully cooperating with the siad officer. For a transparent probe, police is ready to forward any detail needed by Inquiry Officer,” he said.

Gareeb Das said that Inquiry Officer has sought deployment detail and police is forwarding the same to her. “If she needs weapon detail, we will provide her without any delay,” he said adding that nobody is above law and guilty is bound to face the music.

He appealed people of Palhalan to maintain calm and peace and repose faith in the institution.

Pertinently, a youth namely Farooq Ahmed Bhat was killed in government forces firing on February 9, when people were protesting against the thrashing of family members during a nocturnal raid.
