According to a spokesperson, the division carried out a demolition operation in Nowgam and retrieved the portion of the irrigation canal that had been recently encroached upon.

The action was undertaken in line with directions from the Additional Chief Secretary, Jal Shakti Department, and under the supervision of senior officers of the Irrigation and Flood Control Kashmir, including the Chief Engineer, Superintending Engineer and Executive Engineer concerned.

The department stated that it had received a written complaint regarding the illegal occupation of the canal. Acting on it, field staff were deployed and the unauthorised structure was dismantled.

The operation was conducted peacefully with the assistance of a magistrate from the Revenue Department and adequate police deployment to maintain law and order.

Following the drive, the canal stretch was fully restored for irrigation use. Local residents reportedly appreciated the prompt action taken to safeguard essential irrigation infrastructure.

The department reiterated its commitment to protecting canals and water bodies from encroachments to ensure uninterrupted irrigation supply to agricultural lands, and urged the public to report such violations for timely intervention.
