Pandit Employees Intensify Protests

SRINAGAR: After the killing of a school teacher from Samba in a Kulgam village, the protesting Kashmiri Pandit employees have intensified their strike. They have blocked the road at Vessdu (Qazigund) and in Srinagar.

Reports said that the Kashmiri Pandit employees serving Kashmir under a special package have stopped all vehicular movement into Srinagar at the main gate of 15-Corps headquarters ain Srinagar. They are not permitting any movement from either side. Thousands of people including patients have been stopped and some of them are trying to reach the city on foot. The protest has blocked the main passage from Pandrethan and Sonawar as a result of which there is a traffic jam.

Reports from Kulgam said the protesting pandits have blocked the highway at Vessu near Qazigund and the authorities are trying to reopen the vehicle movement on the highway. While the men had blocked one terminal of the road, the women employees blocked another one. They were shouting anti-government slogans.

After the killing of the revenue clerk in Chadoora, the Kashmir migrant Pandits who are serving Kashmir under a special package have been seeking their transfer from Kashmir for security reasons. Though the government has been talking to them it has not been able to subside the crisis. They met LG Manoj Sinha last week after he visited them in Sheikhpora. The government had earlier transferred almost 70 employees from the periphery to comparatively safer places.

After the killing of Rajni Devi in Kulgam, the Pandits have intensified their protests.
