Begum, according to her relatives, was admitted at the hospital on May 2 after she developed labour pain.

“Despite being informed by the doctors that Shameema will have a normal delivery. However, the nurses, later on the directions of the doctors carried out a surgery,” a local newspaper reported quoting the deceased’s relatives.

“When the surgery was done, the nurses couldn’t stitch back the sliced portion of the body. She was bleeding profusely, following which they got nervous and referred us to LD hospital Srinagar. As we reached outside the hospital gate, Shameema passed away,” the report quoted the relative as having said.

Meanwhile, the Medical Superintendent District Hospital Baramulla, Dr Syed Masood has promised action.

He said that they have constituted a team to investigate the incident. “Whosoever is found guilty will be dealt under law,” he promised.
