Summer capital is observing a spontaneous shutdown on Saturday following the arrest of dozens of separatist leaders.

Business establishments are closed down in Lalchowk and other parts of Srinagar after news about the arrests of dozens of Jamat-e-Islami leaders and deployment of additional companies of forces in Kashmir. However, traffic was normally plying on the roads in Srinagar.

Eyewitnesses said that the youth took to streets at Nowhatta area of the old city and raising slogans against the government over rumors of article 35-A and arrest of Jamaa’t leadership.

Earlier Jammu and Kashmir Liberation front chief Muhammad Yasin Malik and dozens of Jamaat-e-Islami leaders were arrested during a night raid in the Kashmir valley ahead of the hearing on Article 35A in the Supreme Court on Monday.

Those detained included JKLF Chief Muhammad Yasin Malik, Jamaat-e-Islami chief Dr Abdul Hamid Fayaz, Advocate Zahid Ali (spokesperson), Ghulam Qadir Lone (former secretary general) and dozens more.
