Governor NN Vohra Tuesday inaugurated the 2nd State Level “Governor’s Silver Rolling Volley Ball Championship Trophy” at Government Degree College, Udhampur in which 24 teams from the various Degree Colleges of the Jammu and Kashmir regions are competing.

Pawan Gupta, MoS Finance also graced the occasion.

Complimenting Principal Bhalwal and welcoming the participating teams, the Governor observed that sports activities should be an important part of the curricula of all educational institutions and they should strive to organize regular sports activities. He exhorted the organizers to also ensure participation of teams from Ladakh region and other far flung areas of the State in this tournament, particularly from the rural area colleges in Poonch, Rajouri, Doda and Kishtwar districts, an official statement said this evening.

Emphasizing the significance of sports and games, the Governor observed that games provide an opportunity to the youth to develop sound character, healthy mind and body and besides, promote leadership, camaraderie, and lasting friendships among the youth.

The Governor watched the ‘Exhibition Volley Ball Match’ which was played between the teams of Government Degree College Udhampur and Government College for Physical Education, Ganderbal. He complimented the players for their talented performance and presented medals to both teams.

Earlier, on his arrival, the Governor was presented with Guard of Honour. The inaugural function started with the unfurling of the Championship Flag by the Governor.

An impressive and high quality cultural programme, comprising folk dances of the State, was presented by the students of the Government Degree College Udhampur.
