SRINAGAR: The Regional Transport Officer (RTO) Kashmir has directed all three-wheeler (passenger) autos to install and use fare meters by 31 July 2024, failing which their fitness certificates will be cancelled.
In a communication issued by RTO Kashmir, Syed Shahnawaz Bukhari, it was noted that three-wheeler (passenger) autos were operating in the city either without fare meters or with fare meters not in use.
RTO Kashmir, urged all three-wheeler (passenger) auto unions to use fare meters certified by the Legal Metrology Department by 31 July 2024. “Failure to comply will result in the cancellation of fitness certificates and the imposition of other penalties under the Motor Vehicle Act, CMVR, and JK Motor Vehicle Rules.”
The communication also mentioned that all such cases will be referred to the Legal Metrology Department for action under the JK Standards and Weights & Measures Act.
“This is despite the fact that all three-wheeler (passenger) autos are passed for fitness where a certified fare meter is a compulsory parameter, suggesting that fare meters are detached on the ground after passing the fitness test. Numerous complaints on the same violation have been received in this office through media and general administration,” the communiqué reads. (KNO)
