SRINAGAR: A ferry carrying more than 260 passengers capsized off the coast of northern Cyprus on Sunday, Turkish media reported, with rescue teams deployed to the scene.
The catamaran was travelling from Kyrenia, also known as Girne, to Tasucu in Turkey’s Mersin province when the incident occurred.
No casualties had been reported so far.
Turkish state broadcaster TRT reported that the vessel began taking in water a few kilometres off the coast before overturning.
Northern Cyprus Transportation Minister Erhan Arikli told TRT that rescue crews had reached the area and operations were underway.
