Police on Sunday detained six persons including a police constable in connection with an assault on Indian Reserve Police (IRP) personnel yesterday at Pattan town in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district.

Official sources said that following the attack on IRP man Firdous Ahmad Baba in main town Pattan on Saturday late afternoon that left him seriously injured, a special squad of police raided several houses in the area and picked up at least six persons including a policeman.

The arrested persons have been identified as Moin Peer, Ishfaq Ahmad, Mohammad Saleem, Umar Ahmad and policeman Mohammad Ayoub Gogri, all residents of Pattan.

A police official said that the six persons were picked up for questioning and their role in connection with the Yesterdays attack is being ascertained.

Pertinently, unknown persons assaulted IRP personnel Firdous Ahmad with an axe and decamped with his service rifle at Pattan on Saturday.”The unknown persons according to sources had fired few shots with the same Insas rifle snatched from the policeman before fleeing from the spot,” sources said.
