Protests rocked Baramulla and Sopore on Monday after bullet-ridden bodies of three young men, two among them identified by police as Hizbul Mujahideen militants, were found in an orchard in Pattan area.

Police are ascertaining the identity of third killed youth.

Talking to KNS over phone, SSP Baramulla Suhail Mir said, “the two of the three bodies are of HM militants, while the identity of third one is being ascertained.”

“One was identified as Ashiq Ahmad Wani s/o Mohd Ramzan Wani of Lolipora Pattan. He has joined HM in July 2014 and was active since then. The second one is identified as Aamir Qadir Reshi s/o Gh Qadir Reshi of Hardishiva Sopore. He was missing from July 15, 2015 and he reportedly joined HM,” he said. “The body of third one is lying in District Hospital Baramulla.”

“On cause of the killing,” the SSP said, “it may be a result of a factional conflict between the militant groups.” “It is too early to predict the actual cause of their death but indicators point towards the factional conflict between the rival militant groups operating in the area,” he said.

Soon the bodies were recovered, locals in Pattan, Sopore and Baramulla hit the roads and streets and started protests and there were incidents of stone-throwing in parts of Pattan and Sopore.  Students from local colleges also came out on the roads to join protests.
