SRINAGAR: The Jammu and Kashmir government will upgrade the Perihaspora water supply scheme at an estimated cost of Rs 19.1 crore to ensure reliable drinking water supply to Alambal village in the Mirgund area of Pattan constituency under the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM).
Minister for Jal Shakti Javed Ahmed Rana informed the Legislative Assembly on Monday that the augmentation and retrofitting of the Water Supply Scheme (WSS) Perihaspora would provide a sustainable, long-term solution to the drinking water shortage in the village.
The minister was replying to a Calling Attention Notice moved by MLA Javaid Riyaz Bedar on the scarcity of potable water in Alambal.
Rana said the scheme was 60 per cent complete. Following the extension of JJM until December 2028, the government was working to secure the required funds from the Centre and the Jammu and Kashmir administration to complete the project within the extended timeline.
He said the distribution network laid under the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) for commissioning the scheme needed to be connected to the supply main of the upgraded Perihaspora water supply scheme.
However, the proposed connection has faced objections from residents of Mirgund, the minister said, adding that the matter had been taken up with the local administration and efforts were underway to resolve the issue amicably.
Rana said Alambal village was currently receiving water from the Narbal water supply scheme under the Public Health Engineering Division, Budgam.
